NIDA Online: The General American Accent

Explore the phonetics and rhythm of the General American Accent and enhance your vocal confidence. Learn the placement of dialects and apply these skills to text. Inform your practice and zoom-in on unique approaches to developing a character as you get serious about Accents!

Learning Outcomes

• Phonetics: learn the technical essentials of the Standard American accent and its variations
• Apply technique to a variety of texts.
• Understand the necessity of vocal clarity for creative expression both online or face to face

• Desktop, laptop or mobile with microphone and webcam
• Internet connection

Time Commitment

• Online: 3 × 2 hour sessions
• Self-directed learning: 60 min vocal exercises and practice as well as text work between classes
