American Accents Essentials

Add to your actor’s essential tool kit by developing your General American accent. Explore techniques essential for speaking naturally in the accent to develop your confidence in performance and gain phonetic notation skills. Apply your new skills to a range of texts.

Course components

• Phonetics: learn the technical essentials of the Standard American accent.
• Apply technique to a variety of texts.
• Enhance vocal dexterity with the exploration of an additional American accent e.g. New York, Texan or Californian.

Outcomes

• Ability to break down the phonetic elements of American Accents
• Confidently apply Standard US accent to text.

• Please wear closed-in shoes. Shoes may be removed in the rehearsal room on the direction of the class tutor.
• Please bring along a pen, notebook or electronic device and a bottle of water to all classes.
