NIDA Connect Writing for Performance Course
Identify and develop essential skills required to write a short script.
Explore fundamental story principles and techniques to develop character and dialogue through the practice of writing scenes and exploring them in performance. Create a synopsis for a short stage play or film.
Course components
- Unlocking creativity: Discover where ideas come from and harness your imagination to develop a storytelling point of view.
- Dramatic story: Explore the role of tension, conflict, character relationships and action in structuring a compelling narrative.
- Dialogue: Understand the world of a play through writing in the ‘voice’ of your characters.
- Creative collaboration: Workshop with others to develop your writing ideas; create a short play or film synopsis.

- Flights and Accommodation: From time to time we may need to cancel an advertised course. Before booking flights and accommodation for travel to attend a NIDA Open course, please contact the NIDA Open office to confirm if your course will proceed as planned. NIDA does not accept liability for any associated costs of attendance or cancellation.
- Please ensure that you have given a valid email and mobile number as any course changes will be communicated via email or sms.
- Please wear comfortable clothing you can move in for all drama and performance related courses. Clothing that restricts movement is inappropriate.
- Please wear closed-in shoes. Shoes may be removed in the rehearsal room on the direction of the class tutor.
- Participants must provide their own lunch, including snacks and drinks.
- Students in courses for Grades 11–12 will not be supervised during breaks and are free to leave the venue at designated break times should they wish.
