Skills NT - Writing for the Screen
Explore the unique medium of storytelling for screen. Practise skills in script writing and create drama through structure, dialogue and character. Consider industry requirements for formats and styles from feature films to television series.
Course components
- Work with an industry professional to discover the principles of screenwriting.
- Examine formatting and undertake writing exercises to develop a screenplay treatment and synopsis.
- Gain feedback on the construction of scenes, development of characters and dialogue.
Outcomes
- Ability to write engaging treatments and synopsis for screenplays.
- Creation of authentic characters and dialogue for visual storytelling.
- Awareness of industry formatting and content requirements when writing for television or feature films.
Pre-requisites
Some experience required.
Laptop required. If you are unable to bring your own device please contact the NIDA Open office.
Course enrolment is open to people over 18 years old. This course is available specifically for residents of the Northern Territory.
Course Information
The course will run 10am-5pm with a 45min lunch break. Lunch is not provided.

- Please wear comfortable clothing you can move in for all drama and performance related courses. Clothing that restricts movement is inappropriate.
- Please wear closed-in shoes. Shoes may be removed in the rehearsal room on the direction of the class tutor.
- Please bring along a pen, notebook or electronic device and a bottle of water to all classes.
