NIDA Online: The Art of Lighting Design

Design for performance is a creative and technical art form which illuminates a production and communicates layers of meaning for an audience. Both challenging and satisfying, it requires a diverse array of skills and the ability to collaborate. In these short online courses, you will be introduced to the world of design by a specialist NIDA tutor.
Understand how lighting forms an integral part of the design process from the initial stages of production to performance. Develop an understanding of the role of the lighting designer within the creative team and learn how lighting design shapes meaning for an audience. Gain an understanding of the technical tools available to create a simple lighting design for a dramatic source material.

Resources Required to Participate
- Desktop, laptop or mobile with microphone and webcam
- Internet connection
- Stationery: paper, pencils, basic art materials
Time Commitment
- Face to face via Zoom: 4 × 2.5 hour sessions
- Self-directed learning: 1 hour writing/research activity between each session
